Artist Moisés Castillo was born on the southern coast of the island of Puerto Rico, in the city of Ponce, on the 25th of January, 1964. He was raised in the town of Peñuelas in a home steeped in artistic tradition, and remained there until 1983 when he decided to formalize and further his training by enrolling in the Interamerican University in San German in the Fine Arts Department. Then, in 1985, to broaden his education and awareness, Moisés began taking painting classes in Ponce under the direction of Ivan Rosario at the IWA Gallery, and in 1998, he also began to study the painting of murals with Fran Cervoni in San Juan

As a result of his individal endeavors and collective expositions, Moisés received numerous awards and distinguished recognition, some of which follow:

• 2004 Special Award, Fine Art Abstraction, Hall of Valor, France
• 2002 Master of Expressionism, ARCALE Fair, Salamanca, Spain
• 1995 Named: Ambassador of Peñuelas Culture, Puerto Rico, by the Municipal Assembly, Peñuelas, Puerto Rico
• 1983 Selection of Work: Return from Work, Gulf Hall of Revolving Art while in Puerto Rico
• 1982 Mention of Honor, Sixth Salon of University Art, San Juan, Puerto Rico

Painter Moisés Castillo, now presents to us his most recent collection of works entitled The Five Senses.

The artist believes that the sense of touch must be considered not only as something physical, but as something much more ethereal as we come to know and feel the beat of the heart of humanity. He further affirms that the sense of smell affords us the opportunity to identify the presence or lack thereof of all the natural aromas surrounding us. He knows that the sense of hearing cannot spare us from listening to the verbal attacks and arguments that are initiated on a regular basis around us...only that it could be that we hear a dog's joyful glee when it recognizes it's master. He feels that the sense of taste allows us to savor all the various and delicious flavors of life... most importantly, a kiss of love. And, finally, the artist knows that the sense of sight grants to each and everyone of us the opportunity to see all the beauty which surrounds us and that we must never forget that those who do not speak of the greatness of God and who cannot see the virtue of his power, there is still the hope and belief that from deep within, from the heart, good can also be seen.
